Our Story

Soul Balance Wellness was born from lived experience, resilience, and the belief that healing comes when the soul finds balance.

Our founder, Angela Brown, is a survivor of childhood trauma, domestic violence, and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD). She knows firsthand how deeply trauma can shape the body, the nervous system, and one’s sense of safety, identity, and belonging.

After sustaining spinal injuries that resulted in lasting physical and mental limitations, Angela was forced into an early retirement from her career—an unexpected loss that profoundly disrupted her stability and sense of purpose.

 In August 2023, she experienced another devastating loss with the passing of her mother from lung cancer, adding layers of grief to an already complex healing journey.

Through these seasons of compounded trauma and loss, Angela began walking a path she never anticipated—one rooted not in “fixing,” but in gentle reconnection, compassion, and community.

Drawing on more than five years of volunteer service as a peer facilitator with NAMI, Angela found strength in shared experience and mutual support. This led her to become a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), formalizing her commitment to trauma-informed, peer-led support for individuals navigating mental health challenges.

Alongside peer work, Angela returned—slowly and intentionally—to her 14-year yoga practice, which had remained a quiet constant throughout her life. Through trauma-sensitive movement, she learned how to safely inhabit her body again, regulate her nervous system, and rebuild trust within herself. This healing relationship with movement ultimately guided her to become a certified yoga instructor, with a focus on accessibility and compassion rather than performance.

As part of her recovery, Angela immersed herself in the study of Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG)—the understanding that while trauma leaves real and lasting impacts, it can also open the door to meaning, connection, and new ways of living. Through writing and reflection, this work evolved into her self-care book and thoughtfully curated wellness kits—filled with the grounding tools she personally relies on: simple rituals, affirmations, calming scents, and tangible reminders of safety and hope.

From this lived experience, Soul Balance Wellness came to life.

Today, Soul Balance Wellness is a trauma-informed, peer-led, and community-centered space where healing is accessible and no one is expected to navigate recovery alone.
